it’s your last week on your current job. what would you feel?
mixed emotions? part of you still wants to stay, and another part of you feels it’s time to leave? that’s what i’m feeling right now. that’s what my other teammate also said during his last days with the team.
it’s never really easy to say goodbye. especially to those you’ve come to know for more than a year, to those you’ve considered ‘tropa/barkada‘, to those whom you can share fun and at the same time problems with, to those you’ve considered as part of your extended family.
this team, the grad team especially the americas (night shift), is to be considered as my extended family here in manila. i may have some relatives here, distant relatives perhaps, but i’ve never really been with them. all i had last june 2007, when i first came to manila was my old man and my godparents who live several floors above us.
but what’s done is done. i have to leave. there’s no turning back. all i hope is that my colleagues, my teammates would also treasure the moments they shared with me ‘coz i do. i’ll definitely miss the fun, the laughter, the sessions we call ’1 bottle’, which eventually leads to 2 or more. ;)
anyway, this just crossed my mind but guys, what do think about ‘despedida‘ celebrations? who should be the one to shoulder the expenses?

Be optimistic! I’m sure, you’ll love your new job – experiencing new things is kind of awesome. Even if it will be hard, it will be worth it. Besides, you can always keep in touch with your team/friends. :)
I checked the qualifications for the job: “The successful applicant must be a good swimmer, excellent communicator and be able to speak and write English.” This job is made for lots of people out there, I guess? I jabber, though. Does that make me disqualified?

I know it’s hard to say goodbye. But yeah you have to be firm with your decision and do what you think is best for you :) I’ve never attended a despedida thing before and thankfully my friends are still with me here in the Philippines but I think usually it’s the person who’s leaving who spends for everything, I think :p It’s a case-to-case basis. Haha.

Eh. That is sad. Especially when you’ve become so close with the people around you at work. But it doesn’t mean that there will be no communication anymore, right? :)
I haven’t been into a despedida before.. so I don’t know who shoulders the expenses. -_-

Well, I can swim, but I wonder whether I’m a good one or not? Anywho, I’d be too young to get the job, anyway. Dreaming about it is still lovely, though!

It is way normal to have mixed feelings at this point, but it’s always a good thing to start with something completely new :)
#12 by beejing on January 23, 2009 - 6:26 pm
lols. Cheers! 1 bottle? sure… let’s make it to a set.
anyway, where are you moving? is this new job from outside the country?

Well cheerup up God has many plans for you,, maybe it’s not really your time to be on that job.. you may find a bigger opportunity ! yay!

I’m always teary eyed when it’s my last day at a certain company. If your officemates like you, they should treat the despedida… but you know Filipinos.

I hate saying goodbye. I can never let go of anything I’m close to.
#16 by shane on January 26, 2009 - 6:36 pm
thank you all for the comments!
Rosier, yup! i’m sure i’m gonna love it!
Gel, really? the person who’s leaving. aww.. i’m broke! :(
Luna, yup! we can still communicate, either through texts or emails.
Noelle, know what, i’m also scared of the getting-to-know of new office mates part. haha
beejing, like i said, our ’1 bottle’ always leads to several more.
Karun, yeah. i think this is the opportunity i’ve been waiting for.
tonex, aww.. mayne. does that mean they don’t like me?? :(
Esme, i see. so sad, isn’t it?

I’m not good at saying good bye. I tend to stay even when I already decided to go. :s
You throw a party. One last memorable night or day. :D
#18 by Ariane on February 4, 2009 - 4:12 pm
It is really hard to leave your friends *sigh* But thanks to technology! Heehee! You still have ways to communicate with them. :)
Hmm. I think the one who should shoulder the expenses is the one who’s having the party. Heehee.
#19 by jikjik on February 13, 2009 - 12:18 pm
is that good news or a bad news?
anyway, congrats to your new job. are you going to the big apple? you should bring me with you (and you should be the one paying the expenses). hehehe
despidada? it depends upon the people around you. when i left my first official job, we had a KKB party. like i’ll bring the rice, the others will bring the drinks, the foods. even my bosses shared something for that party. when i said to my bosses that im leaving, they said that they cant permit me to quit the job. it’s not because that they cant find other people to be my replacement, but it is because they cant replace ME. you get what i mean? if you work your best, your employer will surely miss you. i enjoyed my previous work. but we had to search for the “greener pastures”. luckily, my former officemates are still my friends. sometimes we go out watching movies and the “1 bottle” sessionssssssssss. hehehe
again goodluck ang congrats bedmate. hahahahaha
na unsa naman tong facebook tawon? mura naman tog forum. hehehe. BloCk-E rules.

jikjik, what a long comment. i should probably make that a post (haha).
anyway, i’m not going anywhere. i still a year or two to ‘serve’ my country.
hehe yeah.. previous officemates are still part of your circle of friends even though you’ll be separated.

I’m going to start using that phrase, “1 bottle”. I like the concept. Especially that it usually leads to more.

People should come together to pay for a goodbye party. A good friend should ask other friends for contributions.
